Fresh Baked Apple Sauce
Fall is by far our family's favourite season. We love the cool seasonal temperatures, beautiful coloured leaves, hearty meals and delicious harvest fruits and vegetables. I have been watching for the new apples to start arriving at the local farm market from the valley of Nova Scotia and finally the Early Macs arrived. If you would like a delicious and healthy treat then this recipe is for you.
From my kitchen to yours...
Fresh Apple Sauce
Ingredients:
8 small apples (or 5 medium)
2 tbsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1 cup water or apple juice
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 370 degrees
2. Peel and core apples
3. Place apples in baking dish (I like glass dishes)
4. Sprinkle apples with cinnamon and nutmeg
5. Drizzle water over the top of the apples
6. Bake uncovered for 40 minutes to an hour
7. Remove the baking dish from the oven and mash remaining apples that haven't liquefied
8. Let baked apple cool then transfer to a glass or plastic container.
9. Refrigerate for up to 2 weeks or freeze.
