Slow Cooker Chili


It's a rainy June day in Nova Scotia and nothing goes better on a rainy day then a delicious bowl of Chili and Sweet Cornbread.

From my kitchen to yours...

Chili

Ingredients:

1 lb. lean ground beef

1/2 lb. lean ground pork

1 large can diced tomatoes with herbs and spices

1 bottle of your favourite pasta sauce (we like Garden Select Tomato & Basil)

1 large can kidney beans, rinsed

1 1/2 cups portobello mushrooms, diced

1/2 cup red or orange bell pepper, diced

1/2 cup yellow onion, diced

3 tbsp chili powder

1 tbsp + 2 tsp garlic powder

1 tbsp + 2 tsp onion powder

2 tbsp oregano

1 tbsp paprika

1 tbsp cumin

1 1/2 tsp thyme

salt and pepper to taste

Directions:

  1. In a large saucepan or skillet, brown ground beef and ground pork. Season with 1 tsp of pepper and 1/2 tsp of salt.

  2. In the bowl of your slow cooker combine browned meat with all remaining ingredients. Stir to mix everything together.

  3. Cook chili on high heat for 3 hours, stirring every hour.

  4. Serve with your favourite shredded cheese, we like old cheddar cheese.

Combine this delicious chili with Sweet Cornbread for an awesome combination.
